Asparagus harvest has started

Unlike many other crops that are planted, grown and harvested; asparagus plants will grow spears on a daily basis and need to be harvested every day. This calls for a devoted and skilled workforce that can cover large areas of planted crop to harvest a good volume for supply.

Due to the warm spell we have had over the past week, many of our farms have started picking in the last few days and have started harvesting a lot of the ‘wonky’ or misshaped crop that would otherwise be left or sent for processing. We will now see a slow start to the season as temperatures are now due to drop, thus forcing the price to remain fairly high for a few weeks. We will be working with our farms to make sure that the crop being sent out to our customers is the best, least wasteful and most sustainable there is, ensuring that we are supplying a product that is responsible.

We can't wait to see the season get properly underway and look forwards to see some of our customer recipes, photos and delicious meals with a favourite crop of ours.

Not only this but this marks the start of our harvesting boom, over the next few months we see imports of fruit and vegetables almost stop as we gorge on the fruits of our local area. BRING ON THE SUMMER OF FOOD !
